Cruise line shuts down and cancels all sailings

Cruising giants such as Carnival and Royal Caribbean have the financial resources to withstand ebbs in their business. Smaller cruise lines, on the other hand, will often struggle with overhead costs amid multi-million ship upkeep costs, volatile fuel prices, and the expensive day-to-day operations of staffing a floating hotel.

In February 2026, small-ship expedition cruise line Alaskan Dream Cruise Lines shut down permanently after parent company Allen Marine Tours chose to redirect its business to day sailings amid the rising cost of fuel and port fees for running overnight cruises.

This week, a social media post from Florida-based Victory Casino Cruises told its passengers it was shutting down operations indefinitely as its only ship, the 202-passenger Victory I, remains in dry dock needing extensive repairs.

“While we had hoped to resume sailing sooner, additional necessary work has extended our time out of service,” a Sept. 24 Facebook post signed by Captain Tim Levensaler reads.

The cruise line that launched from Port Canaveral in 2011 has also furloughed several hundred of its staff and canceled all sailings into 2026. Victory marketed itself as offering a Las Vegas-style gambling experience on the sea. It offered more than 600 slot machines and table games while running exclusively day cruises around the east coast of Florida.

The Victory I sailed twice a day for five hours Tuesday through Sunday. The cruise line’s last “Bon Voyage” sailing took place on Sept. 28.

“Last week, due to the extension of the ship’s dry dock, Victory was forced to furlough all of its employees, myself included,” Pete Lynch, an employee who oversaw bookings and events at the cruise line for the last 15 years, wrote in a public Facebook post cited by The Space Coast Rocket.

Lynch expressed hope that the cruise line could one day return “possibly even with a new ship,” but for the time being, all of its casino hosts and reservation agents have been let go, and the cruise line is not accepting any new reservations.

The captain’s post said that anyone who has an upcoming booking or made a deposit will be refunded to the original method of payment, although a timeline has not been provided.

Any casino points or prepaid dining will likely be lost. Victory Casino Cruises further said that any potential sailing restart will be announced on its website and Facebook page.

Along with not elaborating on the scope of the needed repairs for Victory I, the company has not named a specific shipyard or facility handling the ship while it is in dry dock.

The term refers to a basin where cruise ships are kept without water so engineers and other maintenance workers can inspect and repair the underwater hull.

The Victory I had previously been in dry dock during the summer and returned for a few sailings at the end of September, only to be shut down again not long after.
